Examinations at Newlands Girls’ School
Examinations at Newlands are administered in line with national regulations set by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ). We ensure all assessments are conducted fairly, securely and in accordance with statutory requirements. This page provides key information for students and families, including exam timetables, policies, certificate collection and results.
Key Dates
- Summer Exam Season Begins: May
- GCSE Results Day: Thursday 20th August 2026
- A Level Results Day: Thursday 14th August 2026
- Certificates Available for Collection: From November
- Deadline for Certificate Collection: 12 months after issue
Exam Certificates
Certificates for GCSE and A Level qualifications are issued once released by the exam boards. Students will be notified when certificates are ready for collection.
If a student cannot collect their certificates in person, the following options are available:
- Third party collection (requires signed authorisation)
- Postal request (requires completion of the school’s postal form)
Certificates must be collected within the timeframe specified by the school. Exam boards do not issue replacements for lost or uncollected certificates.

Results
GCSE and A Level results are published each August in line with national release dates. Summary information for each cohort is shared on this page once results have been confirmed.
Students unable to attend results day may arrange for results to be emailed or collected by an authorised person, following school procedures.

What happens if my child is ill on the day of an exam
Parents should contact the school as soon as possible. Medical evidence may be required for special consideration.
What is special consideration?
Special consideration is an adjustment made by exam boards for students who experience illness or unforeseen circumstances during an exam.
Applications must meet JCQ criteria.
What if my child arrives late?
Students who arrive late may still be permitted to sit the exam, depending on the time of arrival and JCQ regulations. The Exams Office will advise on the next steps.
Can students take water into the exam?
Yes. Water must be in a clear, unlabelled bottle.
What equipment do students need?
Students must bring standard exam equipment in a clear pencil case.
Calculators must meet JCQ requirements.
How long are certificates kept?
Certificates are kept for 12 months. After this period, the school may securely destroy uncollected certificates in line with exam board guidance.
