Religious Studies
What We Study
Religious Studies encourages students to explore beliefs, values and ethical questions. They learn to think critically, understand diverse perspectives and reflect on moral issues that shape society. The curriculum promotes empathy, respect and thoughtful discussion.
Key Stage 3
Students study major world religions, philosophical ideas and ethical themes. They explore how beliefs influence behaviour and how different communities understand the world. The curriculum builds strong foundations in enquiry, reflection and respectful debate.
Key Stage 4
At GCSE, students explore Christianity, Islam and contemporary ethical issues in depth. They learn to analyse teachings, evaluate arguments and express well reasoned viewpoints. The course helps students understand how religion influences individuals, communities and global events.
Key Stage 5
A Level Religious Studies challenges students to engage with complex philosophical and ethical debates. They explore ideas about morality, the nature of God, religious experience and the relationship between religion and society. The course develops strong analytical, evaluative and communication skills.
Beyond the Classroom
Students taking GCSE Religious Studies benefit from visits that deepen their understanding of belief, worship and community life. Previous trips have included visits to All Saints Church in Boyne Hill and Maidenhead Mosque, where students explore how the features of religious buildings support worship and community work. These visits give students the chance to ask thoughtful questions about the lived experience of faith, helping them understand how beliefs shape views on themes such as marriage, relationships and issues of life and death. Alongside trips, discussions, debates and enrichment activities encourage students to explore big questions, reflect on different perspectives and develop informed, compassionate viewpoints.
